A backorder reserves founders'-beta hardware. We save your card via Stripe; we do not charge it until your board ships. Before charging, we email you the final price and the ship window. If the window slips, we tell you and you may cancel for nothing (per the FTC Mail Order Rule, we ship within the stated window or offer a refund, and since we charge at ship, "refund" usually just means we never charge you at all).
MeshCam hardware is going through FCC equipment authorization. Until that authorization is complete, this device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission and may not be sold or delivered. Delivery of any preordered board is contingent on successful completion of FCC equipment authorization. If authorization is not obtained, we cancel your reservation and never charge your card.
Three things, and it is worth being exact about which is which.
The board. One assembled MeshCam camera board, production hardware revision v1.1, flashed with the open-source firmware, powered up and checked against the published first-boot check before it ships, with its serial recorded. Its antenna and u.FL-to-RP-SMA pigtail are in the box. Nothing else is: no camera module, no sensors, no solar panel, no cell, no microSD card, no enclosure.
Parts, if you ask for them. We stock a short list of small components and sell them at the prices published on the shop page. They are ordinary parts, sold as received except where the shop page says we test them. We do not sell lithium cells at all.
The build guide. We publish the assembly documentation — photos, the off-board parts list with a vendor for each line, wiring, the enclosure build, and the first-boot check. It is free and public, it goes up before the first board ships, and it is not a warranty. You assemble the node.
Firmware is actively developed and updates over the mesh.
A board is dead on arrival if it fails the published first-boot check as shipped, and we replace it. That check is the whole test. It runs on the board exactly as it came out of the envelope, before you solder, wire, or substitute anything. Run it first. If it fails, email hello@getmeshcam.com with the step it failed on, and we send a replacement. Anything past that edge — your soldering, your wiring, your part substitutions, your enclosure, your own firmware — is your build, not a defect in the board. The public build guide, its issue tracker and the community are where those problems get solved, and a correction there helps the next builder too. Open firmware and an open ingest API mean you can fix, modify, and self-host everything, and doing so never voids the dead-on-arrival promise; it just isn't covered by it.
MeshCam offers an optional hosted cloud where your cameras' photos and detections land, so you can view and search them from anywhere. It runs from $29/yr to $99/yr, every plan unlimited cameras, and it is sold on its own: you do not have to buy hardware from us to use it. Billing is annual through Stripe, and you can cancel any time — we simply do not renew. Self-hosting the same software on your own server is free, forever, and your MeshCam nodes are first-class either way.
The plans differ in how long we keep your images. Small holds a rolling window of roughly the last 30 days (about 1 GB), so older images age out as new ones arrive; Standard holds much more, and any photo you star is kept for as long as your plan is active. Every camera also writes full-resolution stills to its own SD card, so your own copy is not bound by any cloud retention window.
You own everything you capture. We store it only to run the service; we never sell it, mine it for advertising, or hand it to anyone but you. You can export all of it at any time — full-resolution images and their metadata, a complete takeout. Email hello@getmeshcam.com and we hand you your data. Close your account and we delete it.
The hosted cloud is an early service run on a best-effort basis. We do not promise a service level or guarantee uptime. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose — each camera also writes full-resolution stills to a local SD card, independent of the cloud. If we ever wind the hosted service down, we give you reasonable notice and a window to export everything first, and we refund any unused prepaid time.
The hosted cloud service is offered in the United States and Canada. Hardware ships to the United States only for now: radio equipment must be certified in Canada before it can be offered for sale there, and that certification is not complete, so we are not taking Canadian hardware orders. Canadian customers are welcome to join the notify list.
Ohio law governs these terms. Our liability for anything to do with your order or the hosted service is capped at what you have paid us. We can change these terms, but the version in effect when you order is the one that applies to your order: we will not change the price, the ship window, or the terms of an order already placed without telling you and giving you the chance to cancel.
